Zilveren - Dutch for " Silver"

I acquired my first Belgian Tervuren in 2003 after much research.  I
would have gotten one out of the paper like most people do because I
did not know any better!  Lucky for me I didn't find one!  That forced
me to look harder and when I did I learned everything I now know about
why getting a dog from a paper is wrong and why breed preservation is
so important...more on that in the FAQ section!

My first 2 Belgians were lovable pets but were not show dogs.  I had
wanted to show dogs since I was a little girl and when I had my own home
I began my search.  My first champion and love of my life was that once
in a lifetime ... love at first sight dog... his name ... Phineas.

Phineas was born at Eternity Kennel in Sweden a home of long
standing top Belgians.  I contacted them to see if I could get on a
waiting list and was thrilled when it worked out I could have 2nd pick
puppy from a litter I had inquired about.  Though I was warned not to I
fell in love with the only grey male puppy in the litter.

Greys were not popular in the U.S. at that time though less stigmatized
than they had been in the past.  Still it was a risk for a novice handler.
If you have ever truly loved a dog though you know that once a
connection is formed reason goes out the door and I begged for a
puppy I had only seen in photos.

I had seen greys before and I had always wanted one come what may
and here was the puppy of my dreams and what a puppy he was!  I
picked him up in Chicago and he was as happy with me as I was him and
the rest is history!  Phineas was easy to show and with the cards against
us we rowed against the wind as only the truly naive and foolish can but
we succeeded beyond our own expectations.  Phineas won nearly every
puppy match he entered and finished his AKC Championship at an
early age.

He taught me everything about showing a dog and correct Belgian
temperament.  He paved the way for my love of this breed and both mine
and Jared's future in the show ring.

He remains my best friend and Jared's faithful guardian.

We joined the Ohio Valley Belgian Tervuren Club in our early days
and have remained active members .  Their friendship and guidance has
helped us grow and learn and we owe them so much.  Now we just do
what we can to help those like us we meet along the way.   As they say
the rest is history!
